Lynard's story

Part 1

Lynard's story. As I can't always remember names/countries etc, I'll just wing it. I am trying to make it fairly short, so it's not going to be a great story. The campiagn didn't go for that long though, so I am going into detail. Especially the early, personality forming experiences.

Lynard started out as a 22 yo warlock (fire mage, with some abilities of earth and the elements) in the Navy (who trained him). His first several missions involved raids against the enemy coastal towns. The enemy of late had moved into his countries fishing grounds (or was it the other way around?) and we were fighting back.

He distinguished himself in several of these raids, beating back by himself several swimmers who attacked his ship at anchor. He was promoted to the rank of mage for his efforts. He also demonstrated noticeable talent for magic, advancing several cycles in power. (This took about 3 sessions, and cycle is about equal to a spell level. There are seven cycles. Getting the first couple is dead easy.)

At this stage he was offered an undercover mission. As an unknown, he could enter the enemy country and not be instantly spotted as other mages would be. He would be mind-wiped before entry, with his memories being replaced by those of an adventurer. He would then be geased to go to the navy there and join it.

He agreed. His superiors gave him a scroll of mass teleport, and he was joined by several also-unknowns. These
comprised a scout, another warlock (female, by the name of Clie), an illusionist and several warriors. As he was the highest rank (and marginally the most skilled), he was placed in charge.

He (and the others) were dropped off at an island to the north, which trades with both. His group of adventurers traveled south, encountering a sea monster sumoned by a conjurer. The conjurer's barrier proved proof against Lynard's fireballs, but not against illusions. The sea monster turned against the conjurer, and we sailed onwards.

They sonn afterwards reached the other country. They joined the navy, which greedily accepted the aid of several adventurers, and began training at the naval base.

While they were there, they started looking around, and quickly discovered a warehouse which they were not permitted to enter. The false memories wore off (since they had passed the magical scrutiny), and Lynard promptly realised that he was a complete idiot to agree to this. Being in the middle of the enemies biggest military base wasn't the brightest idea.

He decided to investigate the warehouse that night, since he wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. He cast an illusion over one of the scouts, who slipped in. He reported the place was some kind of lab, and there were lots of these items all over the place. He produced several wands.

The next day, Lynard was snug at home with his own memories back, and a handful of wands of fireballs. He was promoted again, to the rank of warlock (which was beyond his abilities as a mage).

Lynard was offered the chance to retire, with one of the wands, and a sum of money. Certain people were jealous of his success. He accepted, as did Clie and the warriors. The small taste he had of adventuring seemed appealing.

He started traveling the countryside, heading towards the capital. Along the way he called into his home town, and decided to aid a priest to the growing party. The only priest willing to go with them was Eliya, a naive young priestess. The older priests asked him to take care of her.

He traveled onto the capital. Part two.
