This is a selection of runes known to one
Thora 'Greywalker', a godi (priest) of
Freya. Some of the runes here are from The Nothern Reaches gazeteer,
others are from my own imagination or other sources.
Urur (Auroch)
Signifies the strength of the wild beast
- Paralyse one animal
- Gives strength of a cave bear (18/00)
- Attracts the attention of all attackers within 30' radius
and causes them to attack the priest (just as the bull auroch
challenges a pack of wolves to protect the herd). Only
functions if the godi is carrying the rune inscribed
object.
Jarn (Fruitful Nature)
Signifies the bounty of wild nature (as opposed to domestic
animals and crops)
- The priest is informed whether plants are edible or poisonous
- Indicates direction to specific species of plants or
animals, within 1 mile.
Ihwar (the Hunter)
Signifies the tracking, snaring and killing skills of the
hunter
- Missile weapons inscribed with this rune gain +2 to hit
while the rune is activated
- Small traps and snares inscribed with this rune permit
the priest to capture small creatures (20 pounds or less) without
injuring it. One animal of the choosen type will automatically be
caught in the trap within 24 hours
- The priest may trace the trail of any creature, regardless of
surface traveled or physical or magical attempts to obscure the path.
Dagar (Day)
Signifies the powers of light and darkness
- Causes the rune to burn as brightly as the sun for 10
rounds. All areas within 200' of the rune are brightly
illuminated. Not affected by magical darkness
- Reduces all light sources (magical or otherwise) within
120' of the rune to be reduced to 1% effectiveness.
- Other properties as yet unknown
Berkana
This signifys the durabile vitality of birch
- If wearing no armour, skin becomes as tough as bark. AC
drops to 4, minus 1 for every 4 levels of the godi (priest).
- Bearer of rune takes half damage from one physical or
magical attack. Bearer may choose to take half damage after
knowing the damage caused by the attack. Rune activation
ceases immediately.
- Rune bearer is healed of 10hp. Rune activation ceases
immediately.
Gustir (the Beast)
This rune signifies the beast within
- The rune bearer may change shape into one animal. When
this rune is first used, one animal shape is choosen and this
may not be changed. No equipment changes with the bearer. No
special abiltities are gained (bear hug, poison etc). The
change lasts d6 hours or until the bearer sleeps or is
killed.

Tyca (Luck rune)
This rune signifies good luck granted by the gods
Nith (Revenge)
This well known but seldom used rune is said to cause great
pain and hardship to those apon whom it is called. The risks
for the rune bearer are said to be considerable as well,
making this rune one only used in dire circumstances.
Rolthing (Second Sight)
This rune allows the use of Second Sight, but only apon one
creature. Many details of the person and their fate are said to
be revealed.
Ingwar (Growth)
This rune signifies the power of growth in natural things
Lagur (Water)
This rune signifies protection from drowning and from the
power of the sea
Odala (Birthright)
This rune signifies power over fate
