Ryel was granted to Thalla as a familiar after she read a manual of Familiar
Summoning. Ryel is a crystal hawk, from the plane of the Seven Heavens.
Crystal hawks require gems for food. Clear gems are prefered, such as
diamonds. They require 100gp/month to maintain good health, although
more are prefered (and of a nice variety!).
Crystal hawks reproduce by using direct sunlight. The male concentrates
the sunlight via his wings onto the female, who imparts this energy
into a small gem, which becomes an egg. This egg requires 10 months
incubation in direct sunlight. This means that reproduction is impossible
except in certain planes (or in the hollow world).
Crystal hawks mate for life, generally by the age of 35. Only one egg is
incubated at a time.
Light spells give interesting effects to crystal hawks, although they quite
enjoy the effects...
Most crystal hawks are crystal mages, not requiring
spell components due to their natural afinity to this element.
Crystal hawks live for 100+4d10 years.
