At first...
The supernatural is indistinguishable from the natural state. The gods
walk Mystara. Magic is not yet a concept, as nothing is not magical.
The gods create the elves, the first born, and instruct them on the arts
of civilisation, fire, and magic. The other races are created.
10,000 years BC
The elves teach the humans the use of fire and magic. Civilisation seems
to have eluded them however. The humans wage war amongst themselves.
5,000 years BC
The gods condemn and applaud, as is their nature, the humans. They leave
Mystara to the mortal races. Magic is made more difficult. The first
priests appear.
4,000 years BC
Various refinements are made to the original concept. Permanent spells are
discovered. Temporary enchanted objects are created, then permament ones.
Ioun stones and bracers are developed. Magic other than elemental magic
is developed. The schools appear.
A great cataclysm, with no clear cause, shatters Mystara. The broken lands and the Minrothad islands are formed. The great plateau west of Sind is destroyed, and it's peoples scattered.
The gnomes and Moulder dwarves of the Northern reaches reach their height, and are destroyed by a humanoid invasion. Their unique alteration magics are lost.
3000 BC
Ogres invade and enslave Sind. Much knowledge is lost. Orcs invade the
Five Shires and the Traldar, enslaving both.
2000 BC
The Alphatians arrive, and teach the native Mystarans what little magic
they brought with them. The elves create a forest on the plains of
(modern day) Darokin. The planes are discovered. The first specialists
appear.
1500 BC
Mortal mages discover the secret of joining their power
together. Shortly afterwards, they destroy themselves so well,
so that nothing remains of their civilisation. The Alphatians become (more)
introspective. The golden age of magic ends.
Orcs control most of the centre of the known world. The Sindhi free themselves from the humanoids.
The great plateau reappears, apparently created by
251 BC
Glimreen Gemeye builds the prototype for Serraine.
100 BC
Alphatia decides to eliminate annoying pirates, and invades the area now
known as Thyatis. The known world receives a boost of magical knowledge,
particularly that of enchanting weapons. The Thyatians take this to
heart.
0 BC
The Thytians kick the Alphatians out.
Desert warriors from the far west settle in Sind, bringing camels. You can guess they sound like Ylari.
400 AC
Glantri area settled by planar travelers. Some Alphatians attempt to
create a super-race, instead they create virulent strains of vampirism
and lycanthropy.
A devastating plague strikes Sind, killing nearly half of the populace. Shape shifting beings including lycanthropes take over Sind.
451 AC
Sindhi mages led by Maga Aditi, a powerful female
magic-user, unite and overthrow the shape shifters. A brutal
purge follows. Elaborate tests and carefully plotted traps
expose a great many shape shifters - dopplegangers and
lycanthropes alike - who are promptly executed. When the dust
settles, the magic-users of Sind establish their own caste,
the Jadugeryas, and claim themselves high-born, like the
Himayas (warriors) and Rishiyas (clerics)
Hule is nearly overrun by northern barbarians. Hosadus, the legendary founder of Hule, returns and by trickery drives the barbarians back north.
600 AC
Ethengar and Glantri discover they can't fight in mountains and plains
respectively. Each takes heavy losses.
700 AC
Rajadhiraja Narenda takes control of most of Sind. Jaibul proves too
tough. The art of battle magic is born.
714 AC
Rajadhiraja Narenda ul Nervi announces the total unification of the
Kingdom of Sind.
788 AC
Glantri becomes an Alphatian dominion. Glantrian mages learn what they
can.
829 AC
Lord Glantri gives the Alphatians the boot, and founds the Republic of
Glantri.
900 AC
Several new types of magic are discovered, in addition to the standard
eight. Humans learn song magic from the Faenre.
992 AC
Rajadhiraja Kapil ul Nervi dies of injuries sustained while battling a
blue dragon that had plagued Baratkand. A grandson, Chandra ul Nervi,
becomes Rajadhiraja (and is to this day, Hule not withstanding).
1000 AC
Wild magic is discovered.
