Kasin quotes
Since Hannes gave me a Sun Tzu calendar (to go with the Art of War I already
have) I thought I'd make a note of the quotes which go well with her
personality.
-
Governing a large number as though governing a small number is a matter of
division into groups. Battling a large number as though battling a small
number is a matter of forms and calls.
-
Whenever you are going to attack and fight, first you have to know the talents
of the people employed by the opponent, so you can deal with them according
to their abilities.
-
It is best to thwart people by intelligent planning.
-
Best of all is when your troops are held in such awe that everyone comes to
surrender. This is perferable to winning by trickery, violence, and slaughter.
-
The Way means inducing the people to have the same aim as the leadership, so
that they will share death and share life without fear of danger.
-
Command is a matter of wisdom, integrity, humanity, courage and discipline.
-
Consistent means all along: in ordinary times, it is imperative that
benevolence and trustworthiness along with dignity and order be manifest to
people from the start, so that later, if they are faced with enemies, it is
possible to meet the situation in an orderly fashion, with the full trust and
acceptance of the people.
-
The ancient class of documents says "The one who treats me well is my leader,
the one who treats me cruelly is my enemy."
- In war, it is not numbers that give the advantage.
